Gujaratis are everywhere! These are the top actors and singers in Bollywood and Hollywood who are gujaratis. Gujarat is a region in India which is famous for it’s Garba (dance form) and delicious food like dhokla, fafda, khakhra and of course the jolly and kind hearted people.

#1 Paresh Rawal


This one is kind of a given. Many of us already know that actor Paresh Rawal is a Gujarati. But had to mention him, as he is one of my favorite actors in Bollywood. I personally love his comedic acting. He is also a politician which is not so known. He is a member of Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament of the political party BJP. In 2014, he was awarded Padma Shri by the government of India for his contributions in the entertainment industry.


#2 Sanjeev Kumar


Sanjeev Kumar was a bollywood actor in the 60’s. He has won major awards for his acting in movies such as Dastak (1971) and Koshish (1973). Sanjeev Kumar’s birth name was Harihar Jethalal Jariwala and he was also known as Haribhai. He was born in Surat to a Gujarati Leuva Patel family. His family lived there till Sanjeev Kumar’s early years and eventually moved to Mumbai.


#3 Dimple Kapadia


Dimple Kapadia as we all know is the mother of actress Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. She was born to a Gujarati Entreprenuer Chunnibhai Kapadia and her mother Betty. We also know she married actor Rajesh Khanna at a very young age of 16 years and also only six months before her first film was releasing. She retired from acting to raise her two daughters.


#4 Kal Penn


Kalpen Suresh Modi is one of my favorite actors because of his role in the movie series ‘Harold & Kumar’. I still have a good laugh watching that movie and his funny looks. Kal Penn is his stage name and he is an American actor. He was born in New Jersey to Gujarati Parents. His mother, Asmita, is a fragrance evaluator for a perfume company, and his father, Suresh Modi, is an engineer.


#5 Freddie Mercury


Who would’ve thought?! Right? All those rock band lovers and Queen’s lovers, you only know that the lead singer of this band was a British singer and songwriter. Well here’s a bit of truth for you today. Freddie was born to a Parsi family. His parents were parsis from Gujarat and his birth name was Farrokh Bulsara. He had spent most of his childhood in India and later his family moved to Middlesex, England. He formed Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. Mercury died in 1991 at age 45 due to complications from AIDS, having confirmed the day before his death that he had contracted the disease.


#6 Dev Patel


Dev Patel was born in England to Gujarati Indian Parents, Anita and Raj. Patel was raised in the Hindu faith. He speaks English, but can also speak some Gujarati. His ancestors hail from Jamnagar and Unjha in Gujarat.  He completed his AS Levels in PE, Biology, History, and Drama in 2007 at Whitmore High School while working on Skins.
